Chi. Cubs at L.A. Dodgers - May 4, 2011

The Dodgers again wore the satin 1944 night uniforms of the old Brooklyn Dodgers (and again in the afternoon), and this time the Cubs joined in on the fun, wearing their 1944 uniforms as well.

As Simply Moono writes in the comments:

The Cubs in their 1944 road greys with the red underline under a blue radially-arched "CHICAGO" wordmark. Royal Blue whole-socks with a "football-style" white oversock insert and three red
stripes.Royal Blue hat with a red wishbone "C".

Dodgers in their 1944 Brooklyn er-satin throwbacks. White raglan-stripes in the sleeves, white belt chambers and white tackle-twill numbers with a white "Brooklyn" script on the front of the jersey.
Powder-blue base jersey and pant with Dodger Blue stirrups/whole-socks mixture. Hat is Royal/Dodger Blue with a fancy "B".

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Atlanta at L.A. Dodgers - April 21, 2011

In the first of five Dodgers' throwback games, the Dodgers wore the satin night uniforms of the 1944 Brooklyn Dodgers.  Notice the "Red Sox" number of number #27 for the Dodgers.  The Braves, with zipper fronts, were wearing uniforms and caps of the old Boston Braves. (although they didn't have throwback helmets)

Chi. Cubs at San Diego - September 30, 2010

For the fifth and final time of the 2010 season, the Padres went throwback, wearing their 1984 duds again.  Like in the final games of the 1984 NLCS, the Cubs declined to participate.

Arizona at San Diego - August 26, 2010

The Padres went retro for the fourth time this year, again wearing the 1978 duds against the non-participating Arizona Diamondbacks.

Baltimore at Tampa Bay - August 13, 2010

The Orioles wore all-orange, which they wore twice in 1971, while the Rays dressed as the minor league Tampa Tarpons of the mid-1970s.

Note: Special thanks to Thomas, who submitted this on the comments page, I had had the wrong date, it is corrected to August 13.

Baltimore at Kansas City - July 31, 2010

The visiting Baltimore Orioles dressed as the 1950s Baltimore Elite Giants and the Royals were dressed as the 1949 Kansas City Monarchs as the teams played in an annual Negro League tribute game.  Billy Butler's two-run home run in the eighth inning was the difference as the Royals won 4-3.

L.A. Dodgers at San Diego - July 29, 2010

On their third of five "Throwback Thursdays" of 2010, the Padres, wearing their 1978 Road Uniforms, defeated the non participating Dodgers 3-2 on a bottom of the ninth walk-off pinch-hit single by Oscar Salazar that drove in Jerry Hairston with the winning run.

Cincinnati at Houston - July 24, 2010

In Roy Oswalt's final start for the Astros, who were wearing their 1989-93 uniforms, he gave up six runs on nine hits in five innings in a 7-0 loss to the non-throwback Reds.  Oswalt was traded to the Phillies five days later.

Pittsburgh at Oakland - June 26, 2010

The A's defeated the Pirates 5-0 on 1970s Turn Back the Clock night.  Both teams wore flashy uniforms from the 70s, with the A's in bright yellow and green and the Pirates in black and gold. Pittsburgh even dusted off its famed pillbox caps. The Pirates and A's were dominant teams in the 70s, combining for five World Series titles.

Washington at Baltimore - June 26, 2010

The Orioles, honoring the 30th anniversary of their 1970 World Series championship, defeated the Nationals, who were dressed as the 1963-71 expansion Senators who would later become the Texas Rangers.  Before the game Earl Weaver was "thrown out" of the game as he accompained interim manager Juan Samuel to home plate with the lineup card.

Seattle at Anaheim - June 5, 2010

St. Louis at San Diego - May 27, 2010

The non throwback Cards defeated the Padres, who were wearing their '78 road unis, 8-3.

Philadelphia at Milwaukee - May 15, 2010

The Phillies, wearing 1973-83 road jerseys, defeated the 1972-77 clad Milwaukee Brewers, 9-5.

St. Louis at Cincinnati - May 15, 2010

Submitted by Sean on the comments page, the 2010 Civil Rights Game featured the Reds wearing 1947 uniforms, although as he says, "even though image has it more of blue in the game it was more black."  They faced the St. Louis Cardinals who were wearing uniforms from the 1946 season.

Atlanta at San Diego - April 15, 2010

The Padres had the first of five "Throwback Thursdays" on Jackie Robinson day.  Not only did the 1980-83 era Padres face off against the Braves, who were wearing thier light blue 1981-86 Road threads, but everybody was also wearing #42!  The Braves won the game 6-2.

Philadelphia at Houston - April 10, 2010

The Astros and Phillies wore throwback uniforms commemorating the 45th anniversary of the first regular-season game played at the Houston Astrodome, on April 12, 1965.  Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth homered and 47-year old Jamie Moyer won his first start of the year as the Phillies won 9-6.

The staff even got into the act with grounds crew dressed as astronauts and the promotion people dressed futuristically as they were in 1965.

Oakland at Tampa Bay - July 11, 2009

The Rays finally do a throwback to their own uniforms, the inaugural 1998 season.  Or maybe it was the 1999 season - they apparently didn't get the caps right.  The A's wore an early-to-mid 1980's dark green throwback.

Oakland at Seattle - May 2, 2009

The Mariners and Athletics wore throwbacks to the 1939 Pacific Coast League Seattle Rainiers and the Oakland Oaks.

Cleveland at Seattle - July 19, 2008

Depending on who you ask this game was a flashback to either 1987, 88 or 89, featuring the visiting Cleveland Indians and the home team, the Seattle Mariners.

Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay - June 28, 2008

On African-America Heritage Day, the Pirates dressed as the Pittsburgh Crawfords and the Rays dressed as the Jacksonville Red Caps for their interleague game in St. Petersburg.

Houston at Tampa Bay - June 21, 2008

The Rays dressed as the St. Petersburg Pelicans of the short-lived Senior Professional Baseball Association of 1989, while the Astros wore their "tequila sunrise" uniforms of the 1980s.

Atlanta at Chi. Cubs - June 12, 2008

Thanks to Mark in Shiga who in the comments mentions this one, the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs played a game to commemorate the 60th anniversary of WGN Cubs telecasts by both wearing 1948 duds.  The Braves were the Boston Braves and the according to Bill Henderson, the game was "broadcast was in black and white with 1948-era camera angles (no centerfield batter shots, no instant replay)."

L.A. Dodgers at Tampa Bay - June 22, 2007

The Dodgers dressed as the 1955 Champion Brooklyn Dodgers.  According to Bill Henderson, the Dodgers:

"dressed in complete flannel uniforms by Ebbetts Field Flannels, however the last uniform to have the Brooklyn script on the front was in 1945. The team knew, but wanted the jerseys to celebrate Brooklyn anyway"

The Devil Rays dressed as the minor league St. Pete Saints from the same year.  Henderson further notes that both teams wore flannel, and that:

"while MLB TBTC games have become popular and even rather common, on-field uniforms made of real flannel have become rather rare, as the teams opt for the old styles sewn in double-knit fabric."

St. Louis at San Diego - May 11, 2007

On May 11, 2007, both the Padres and the visiting Cardinals turned back the clock to 1972.

Chi. Cubs at San Diego - May 7, 2006

Special thanks to Mark in Shiga in the comments who brings us this game where the Padres dressed as the 1948 PCL Padres.

St. Louis at Tampa Bay - June 18, 2005

San Diego at L.A. Dodgers - April 15, 2005

According to Bill Henderson's style guide, this game was to commemorate Jackie Robinson, and it was played against the San Diego Padres, who wore current uniforms.  However, according to:, it was a game against the Cubs on August 31, 2005, a date that says the Dodgers played a road game at Wrigley Field.  Since this is a "home" looking white Brooklyn uniform, I'm going to go with Bill, although as he says, they only used "Brooklyn" on road grey jerseys, and only from 1939 to 1945, not during Robinson's career.

Philadelphia at Atlanta - June 26-28, 2002

The Phillies and Braves dressed in mid-70s uniforms for an entire three game set, although according to Bill Henderson, the Phillies jersey was more accurately depicting the 1987 jersey as it had buttons and not the zipper-front that the Phils wore in that era.
